What is string in Google Sheets?

String is a core spreadsheet object in Google Sheets: the building blocks of every workbook. Sheets, tabs, rows, columns, cells, ranges, and values are the vocabulary every other feature builds on.

When to use it

Use core object terms when teaching spreadsheet basics or writing documentation teammates will search.

When to skip it

Skip abstract definitions when hands-on practice on a sample sheet teaches the idea faster.
