What is clip mode in Google Sheets?
Clip mode is a text wrapping option under Format > Text wrapping > Clip. Content that does not fit the column width is cut off at the cell edge instead of spilling into the next empty cells or wrapping to new lines. Clip keeps dense grids visually tidy when full text is not needed at a glance.
When to use it
Use clip on wide tables with long URLs, ids, or descriptions where row height must stay uniform and readers open the formula bar or expand column to see full value.
When to skip it
Skip clip on instruction text, legal disclaimers, and columns where hiding tail characters causes costly mistakes reading account numbers.
